FAQ's

*Who can attend?

- Writers, singers, producers, and musicians of all genres and skill levels are welcome. You must be 18 or older and registered to attend. (There may be opportunities for younger ones to participate in the future.)

*How much does it cost to attend?

- This event is FREE! ALL participants must register HERE. (Cleveland Writes is accepting monetary contributions to help support future sessions, events, and resources.)

*Do I need to be experienced?

- Not at all. Whether you’re just starting or experienced, this is a welcoming space to learn, collaborate, and grow.

* What should I bring?

  • Your instrument (if applicable, see next question)

  • Laptop, hard drive, and DAW (Logic, Pro Tools, etc.)

  • Notebook and/or ideas

  • Anything you need to fully participate

*Will I need to bring an instrument?

- Yes, guitarists and other instrumentalists should bring their own instruments and amps. Keyboards, pianos, drums, and basic audio equipment will be available.

*How will the songwriting process go?

- You’ll be placed into a group and given time to collaborate, write, and record a skeleton version of your song (into a DAW or on your phone). Groups will be strategically assigned to encourage new connections and collaboration. At the end of the night, all groups will perform their songs for everyone at the songwriting showcase.

*What genres can we write?

- All genres! At the time, we will be encouraging you to step outside of your comfort zone.

*Who owns the songs?

- The writers own 100% of the songs they create (*split equally* among group members, "Nashville Split".) Cleveland Writes and Breakthrough Sounds do not claim any ownership. (Only if you choose to use Cleveland Writes' services to have your songs finished, placed, or synced in the future, there will be an agreement required.)

*What if I don't finish my song?

- The goal is to complete a basic version (skeleton) of your song. We're expecting to hear great lyrics & basic music - verses, hook, etc. Do your best - collaboration is key! (After the event is over, you and your group is responsible for completing a finished demo to store in your catalogue. "Stay ready so you don't have to get ready!")

*Can I bring an extra friend/guest?

- This event is for registered participants only. Please have your friend /guest register to participate. (The songwriting showcase is open to non-registered participants, starting approximately at 9:30PM.)

*Will photos/videos be taken?

- The event will be photographed and recorded. By registering and attending this event, you agree to release all rights to any photos or videos taken during this event.

*Registration is full. Will you be doing this again?

- YES! We plan to do this at least once per quarter and possibly more events in the future. The goal is to build a community and safe space for musical creatives with like minds. Please stay tuned for our summer event.

*Do you need volunteers?

- Yes! We definitely need volunteers to help us create a seamless event. Please email us at clevelandwrites216@gmail.com to see how you can help!
